To me, service is a way to broaden my focus from myself to to the world around me. As a college student living in America, I often lose sight of the needs of people I don’t normally see and interact with, the people who need help the most. Many years ago when in my boy scout troop, I worked on a project where we built benches for a local high school football team and direction signs for the cross country team. I did not get to meet the kids I impacted, but I have been told that many years later, the football team is still using those benches. Just a few hours of service can benefit people for a long time. I think every student should get involved with a service organization and give up a few of their hours a month to consider others.
