Conflicts in Virginia’s Places and Past
As described in my post for this course in the “GEN ED” tab, this class was a change of pace, one that I greatly appreciated and really needed. This course, while combining the varying interpretations rooted in literature and historical studies, also gave me a chance to get out of the classroom. Drs. Fergeson and Miller planned plenty of field trips and outing for the class to enjoy historical sites and see real-life examples and demonstrations of historical interpretation. During these trips, our professors engaged us in open discussions around casual settings, like a camp-fire or table while eating a meal, and I enjoyed the casual setting in which we were encouraged to share our thoughts. I found this more educational and fluid in comparison to writing reflections or talking in class, and I think it is a more open and friendly, which invites a larger crowd of people who may not study literature or history. I think this is a good method to apply in my later career.
