Goal 4: MUSC 222
History of Rock
When I first signed up for this course, I was rather excited not only because of my love for history, but also that I grew up and knew a lot of the songs and artists, and I wouldn’t have to make a piece of artwork or play an instrument. However, the class was different from what I had expected. While Mr. McEvoy knew a lot about the history of rock ‘n roll, his teaching style didn’t match with my learning style. He required us to learn the beat, rhythm, melody, and other parts of songs, which I found difficult due to that I’m not musically inclined. Overall, I was somewhat disappointed that the historical value of certain bands and songs weren’t enforced instead, while some artists were never mentioned, but it was a good learning experience where I realized sometimes a teacher’s style were different from my own, and how I could surpass those difficulties.
