During my time at Longwood I was involved with several groups and societies in addition to the Cormier Honors community.
Between August 2015 and March 2017, I was a member of Longwood’s Division I field hockey team, during which I balanced maintaining high grades and a GPA required by my team and the honors college, with practices, traveling, conditioning, and games during the majority of the year. I decided to leave the team for several reasons, one partly being that I felt my mental health was declining, but the primary reason was that my futures goals for myself changed and no longer had room for such activities.
Following my leaving of the team, I became more involved with groups associated with my major and minor, including aiding in the archaeology lab by cleaning, sorting, counting, and documenting artifacts found by Longwood’s archaeology institute. Additionally, during the 2017-2018 school year, I was inducted into the Lambda Alpha Anthropology Honors Society, Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society, and the Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society, participating in conferences, meetings, and fundraising events for these societies.
During my final year, I once again became involved with Longwood’s athletic community as a tutor for student-athletes who needed aid with Western civilization and American history classes.
Additionally, I had the opportunity during the spring semester of my final year to be the work-study student for Longwood Center for the Visual Art’s education program. I participated in programs for teachers and students, completed research for future programs and supplies, aided in the gallery, and was heavily involved in special events held by the center.
