I took this class since I became an Resident Assistant. This class covered important topics, such as mental health, roommate conflicts, time management, and event planning that not only is important to successfully help residents but can later be transferred into other skills. The instructor took time each class period to discuss what issues the class was facing on our halls and in general. This was particularly useful since I was able to see what issues others were facing while getting advice about my own problems.

The PowerPoint above is from a poster presentation I did towards the end of the class. I looked at research on the impact income had on club and organization involvement. This topic was of interest to me since I wanted to find ways to help my residents become more involved on campus and wanted to further see if income was a factor in involvement. I found that work and other factors play a role in the amount of time that can be allocated to other activities that have a correlation to socioeconomic status. One thing I did not expect to find, however, was the impact campus involvement had on grades, which improved with involvement. The research and presentation helped me better understand the importance of involvement with a campus community while also helping me learn how to better articulate what I am trying to say in an academic setting.
