Dear Senior Self,
I’m writing to you right now in my first semester in college. I hope you have had a wonderful time at Longwood these past four years. You have probably grown so much as an individual, and you should be proud of that. I know college has been tough at times, but I’m proud that you stuck it out and are where you are today. Think back to your freshman year and see how far you’ve come! I know a lot has changed, some for the worse and some for the better, but in the end, everything happens for a reason and know that your experiences in life will lead you to where you’re supposed to be in the world.
Your freshman year self is very conflicted about her future plans and it is all very intimidating. I hope that as a senior, you have found a career that fits you just right and that you will enjoy tremendously. Also know, it’s okay to change your mind! This has probably been a recuing theme these past four years and that’s fine. Getting rid of that unsureness has hopefully felt really good and I’m glad you succeeded in that aspect. I know whatever major you end up going with will be the right one for you. Just do what makes you happy going forward. Another goal I set this year was to keep my grades high throughout college. Hopefully your GPA has stayed where you want it to be, but I know it’s hard to judge as a freshman. I just hope you’ve tried your hardest these past four years and given it your all. I hope you’ve remembered what is most important to you and not changed your values for an unreasonable excuse. I know you’ve worked hard these past few years, and I hope it will pay off in life, which I’m pretty convinced it will. Just know that it will all be worth it in the end!
I hope you had a chance to do some interesting research at Longwood! I know right now in our Entering Research class, we are learning a lot about all the different opportunities in research, and I hope you have a good experience with it. It might have seemed very intimidating a few years ago, but I’m sure you did just fine. I know that doing research will help you grow a lot as a student and allow you to have many more opportunities to come. I’m sure you learned a lot in the process as well.
Lastly, I hope that you have taken every opportunity that has come your way. I know that is the key to growth and I know you’ve tried your best to really put yourself out there. I know you’ll do fantastic in the real world/graduate school because of how well you’ve hopefully prepared yourself through this entire undergraduate experience. Don’t forget to keep a balance in life and make time for things that matter a lot to you. This includes both academics and your social life. Good luck with everything you do after Longwood and don’t forget your goals!
