Bodies and Citizens, CTZN 110

In the fall of 2018, I took an Honors course called Bodies and Citizens. The main objective of the class was to introduce new students to many aspects of citizenship by exploring the relationship between bodies and citizenship in the United States. This class opened my eyes to a lot of situations in which the way a body looks can limit or change the citizenship that certain people or groups of people experience. This class was very hands-on, with weekly readings and full class discussions on our readings for each week. I was able to hear many different viewpoints and opinions on topics that are sometimes hard to talk about, and it was nice to be around so many different people.

The artifact I chose for this class was my final project. We were asked to choose a topic to create our own class for, and then to make an “annotated syllabus” for that class. Essentially, we had to create units for the class and explain what articles or videos we chose for those units and why we close them. I created a class based around the prison system in the United States.
