Service

Throughout my adventure at Longwood University so far, I have joined many service projects thanks to my connections with my honors peers. These service opportunities have deepened my love for helping others and allowed me to explore different kinds of service.

Through the Honors Student Association, I was able to go to Hull Springs Farm to participate in the Honors Service Retreat. In Fall 2019, I was able to do service at Nomini Baptist Church where we helped to clean and organize the kitchen as well as paint signs and stairwells outside of the church.

I traveled to San Diego, California with Alternative Breaks where we helped to remove tree stumps, plant trees, prepared and gave care packages to the homeless in Balboa park, and learned why people are homeless and how we can help them. This trip gave me many different techniques that I can use at home to help others. I now know how to effectively plant trees and other plants to help the environment as well as how to effectively help the homeless population.

Alpha Phi Omega is a co-ed service fraternity where we focus on helping others through service. Through Alpha Phi Omega, I have participated in many service projects that I have grown to love. In the Spring 2020 semester, I went the The Woodlands, a retirement home, every Monday and Friday to volunteer. We helped the residents do different tasks such as: making jewelry, painting, playing games, and traveling around the building.
