About Me

Liz Garri

Longwood University ’22

Hi, I’m Liz, a Longwood University senior graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a minor in Children’s Literature. During undergrad, I’ve worked as a consultant at the Writing Center, been an active member of the Cormier Honors College, and volunteered through a co-ed service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega. I am excited to build upon these experiences as I begin my legal education at the University of Alabama next fall, and hope to practice a compassionate approach to client-centered services in my career as a future attorney.

This ePortfolio is intended to demonstrate my progress towards achieving the course outcomes for ENGL 470: Professional Writing (listed below) and mastery of professional writing conventions. The portfolio includes examples of my work in this course: a resume, “bad-news” memo, persuasive letter, TED-Talk style presentation, brochure, and professional report. Each project is accompanied by a brief paragraph that reflects upon my writing process, as well as relevant professional skills and rhetorical strategies used for the assignment. Overall, the course readings, classroom discussions, and assignments in ENGL 470 have given me a strong foundation for understanding the genres and conventions of professional writing.

ENGL 470 Course Outcomes:

  1. Analyze and produce writing genres according to the rhetorical situation of workplace contexts;
  2. Create professional documents that use plain English principles (to a targeted audience);
  3. Conduct research to create content for a variety of professional documents;
  4. Create professional documents that use design principles;
  5. Practice oral communication skills to present content effectively (enhanced with multimedia tools);
  6. Participate productively in collaborative projects.
