Application

Successful applicants for the LIFE STEM Program must meet the following criteria

  1. Acceptance to Longwood University
  2. Demonstrated academic talent
  3. Chosen major of biology, biology/pre-med, chemistry, environmental science, or physics/cooperative engineering
  4. Demonstrated financial need based on Federal Pell Grant eligibility

Applications will be accepted and reviewed weekly starting in April. Rolling admission will continue until all scholarships have been awarded.

LIFE STEM  Application Instructions

A complete LIFE STEM Application must include:

  1. A copy of the candidate’s unofficial transcripts sent from a guidance counselor or other administrative staff from the high school emailed to LIFESTEM@longwood.edu

Please note once the LIFE STEM application is started in the link above, it is not possible to save progress. For this reason, it is suggested that the required information (listed below) be written in a separate document that can easily be copied and pasted.

LIFE STEM Application components

  • General information – name, email, name of high school, question about FAFSA submission
  • Information about your activities – clubs and organizations, sports, community engagement activities, jobs, etc.
  • Interest in science – (limited to 200 words or less)
  1. What experience(s) led you to decide to major in science? Please provide details and be as specific as possible.
  2. What would you like to do after graduating with a degree in science? Please be as specific as possible.
  3. Describe a recent academic challenge you have experienced and how you overcame that challenge.  
  4. What are you most excited about as you consider starting college? Explain.
  5. The LIFE STEM Program has a number of elements such as  a summer bridge experience, designated housing and coursework, professional development activities, intensive mentoring, and of course a renewable scholarship for up to four years,  just to name a few. How do you think the LIFE STEM program will benefit you during your college experience? Explain.
  6. Is there anything else that you would like to tell us about yourself?

Award Notification:

Notification of awards will begin in April and continuing until all scholarships have been awarded.
