Community

Here are examples of the many communities I am involved with at Longwood:

  1. The Cormier Honors College: This organization is a group of individuals who consider themselves to be “citizen scholars”. We not only strive to do well academically, but we also aim to be kind and hardworking individuals who help contribute to the greater good. I cannot express how thankful I am for my honors community. Almost all of my closet friends at Longwood are honors students as well. Most of us lived in Wheeler Hall which was such a treat because we were all able to stay close and connected. We also love the many benefits the program has to offer, especially spending late nights in Stevens, the honor’s lounge area. Not only has the honors college helped me socially and academically, but it has also helped me financially. The organization awards scholarships each year to help ensure that honors students are able to attend college at an affordable rate.
  2. The Honors Student Association (HSA): This organization branches off from the Cormier Honors College. Honors students do not have to participate in this club, but it is an easy way to stay informed and involved on campus. I have participated in retreats, made friends, volunteered, gained leadership experiences, and planned events all as a result of being a part of this small campus community! We met every other Sunday night in our pajamas, it was such a personal and fun experience that I look forward to continuing throughout my time at Longwood!
  3. The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA): This organization is a national organization, but we have a local chapter at Longwood. I joined this club because it relates to my major and the community of individuals within it. It is very important for me to be a part of this because it allows me to further understand aspects of my future career. It also helps me to serve those impacted by speech and hearing difficulties, which is one of my many passions in life.
  4. The Infant and Toddler connection of the Heartland (ITC): I am a student assistant for this establishment. It is an early intervention service for children ages 0-3. I have learned so much from all of the professionals in this field. I have gotten to experience social work, speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy first hand. Working for ITC has made me even more confident that I have chosen the right career path.
