This Introduction into Writing Fiction course surprised me. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but I was hoping this class could bring out some of my hidden creativity. It did exactly that and much more. On the first day I was intimidated because professor Hursey was quite blunt and I wasn’t a fan of the idea of an entire class sitting in a circle and critiquing my stories in front of me. However, I learned from this class that I enjoy writing stories and that constructive criticism is the best kind of criticism you can receive. If someone is assigned to critique your work, and they only write about what they liked, that ultimately doesn’t help your work to become any better. It’s important to be able to take criticism because it makes you better.
The hardest part about this class for me was trying to create unique, interesting story ideas. I have never been a very creative person so this was challenging. Once I was able to come up with an idea, it was fairly easy for me to write the rest of the story. The file that I attached is the first story I wrote during this course titled, “Sweet Dreams.” It’s about a girl who gets into a car accident and starts to become apart of other peoples dreams when she goes to sleep at night.
