My first year at Longwood University has allowed me to truly understand how important it is to become a citizen leader. With role models that include those of Chi, Princeps, and surrounding citizen leaders that are staff and peers I have strived to become a bigger part of the campus. One major aspect in this is service. I love to be of service and to give back to those who truly need it the most.
This previous semester was something special to me, in spring 2017 I was able to rush and to be initiated into Alpha Phi Omega the national co-ed service fraternity. This opportunity has just begun to open new opportunity to reach out and give aid to my brotherhood, my campus, my community, and my nation. We do service projects that focus on Longwood, such as passing out friendly pick-me-ups with candy or planting trees in Eco-April, and Farmville, such as FACES and the Southside SPCA, and the rest of the nation, including helping on the Appalachian Trial and sending collectibles and notes to patients at St. Jude’s. Alpha Phi Omega truly opened my eyes to the unlimited amount of service possible.
Due to my new involvement in Alpha Phi Omega I have developed a new love for giving back to my world that I live in. I hope to truly embody the Cormier Honors service pillar by the time that I leave Longwood, and I most definitely hope that I will be able to leave a mark on the world and on Longwood’s campus.
