About Me

March 6th, 2019

My name is John Altemose and I am apart of the Longwood University class of 2019. I will be receiving a Bachelors of Science Degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Health and Physical Education Pre-K through 12. After I complete my education at Longwood, I hope to get a job teaching Health and PE at any level somewhere in the state of Virginia. I am currently certified in First Aid/AED/CPR and in instructing Drivers Education. Through classes, I was able to teach both observe and teach Health and Physical Education lessons at the Elementary, Middle, and High School levels giving me valuable hands-on experience.

Throughout my time at Longwood, I was able to be apart of a variety of programs. I was a member of HPE Life, our majors club, in which we were involved in the community by painting US and Virginia maps at multiple schools throughout the Farmville area. I was also a member of Longwood’s Club Football team in which I was a player for the 2015-2016, 2016-17, and 2017-2018 seasons. I transitioned into a Defensive Backs/Assistant Defensive Coordinator coach for the 2018-2019 season. During the 2016-2017 season, I served as the team’s head recruiter in which I was able to take our number of players from 19 to 39 for the season.

In the winter of 2017, I was elected President of Longwood Club Football and was tasked with running the team. In the fall of 2018, I presented at the VAHPERD Conference in Virginia Beach on a Play-Teach-Play model of teaching. During all four years of my time at Longwood, I volunteered and became a coach of Farmville’s Buddy Ball program. Buddy Ball is a program that allows children with disabilities the opportunity to participate in and learn bowling, basketball, and baseball.

I believe that I am qualified to fill your position as a Health and Physical Education Teacher.
