Honors LSEM 100

Honors Longwood Seminar

Fall 2017

Longwood Seminar, one of my first honors course at Longwood, was the class that single-handedly thrust me into both the Longwood and Farmville communities. The LSEM course, encouraging students to explore Longwood and the surrounding Farmville area communities to see what they had to offer.

In the case of Longwood, I discovered numerous different clubs and organizations that I could join. One specific organization that I joined was the Honors Student Association; allowing me to meet upperclassmen in the Honors College as well as become more involved with the Cormier Honors College.

In the case of the surrounding Farmville area, towards the end of the semester, I was introduced to the local marketing firm Letterpress Communications where I was given the opportunity to work as a junior designer. Through this opportunity, I have had the chance to work with numerous local Farmville businesses, creating advertising and brochures for different events throughout the year.

In addition to exploring these communities, students were also encouraged to forge communities of their own. Doing so, we were tasked with writing a fictitious article about spending 24 hours in Farmville, focusing on those communities that we were a part of. The fictitious article that I wrote can be found above.
