Correspondence

The creation of the Bad News Letter and the Persuasive Letter were instrumental in learning how to create professional and straightforward documents. These documents helped to accomplish goal one – analyze and produce writing genres commonly found in the professional world (e.g., business, gov., media) – as well as goal two – create professional documents that use plain English (clear, concise, and grammatically correct). For the Bad News Letter and Persuasive Letter, I used the AIDA method which implements the theory of attention, interest, desire, and action sections. The AIDA method comes into use when applied to goals one and two, as the AIDA method requires sections to use correct grammar, concise and courteous language, and clear, plain language. AIDA also helps with goal one, as documents require close analysis when developing AIDA paragraphs. Overall, the correspondence assignment taught me how to develop professional and courteous documents appropriate for a business environment.
