Entering Research 1

Throughout the teachings of Entering Research 1, I was able to learn the proper way of how scientific papers are formatted and written. Most of this information was a recap on what had already been taught to me in previous years but in a different style. While in previous years it was taught straight to the point with no real practice or hands-on learning with it, Dr. Z’s approach allowed for some of that straight to the point learning but incorporated more hands-on learning with it.

Dr. Z’s approach allowed for us to attempt it first and then have some feedback into what needs to be improved. This helped me understand where I went wrong and improve for future writings. The paper that is attached is the introduction to the experiment we did that semester. It was one of the first things we had done in the class and as expected, it needed a little bit of improvement. However, with the structure of the class and how we see what we did wrong and we fix those mistakes, it allowed me to improve not only that paper but future papers to be better.

The class, however, wasn’t just about writing papers. It also helped with our development in academic research. One activity we did was to find professors’ research that we found interesting and talk to them about it. This allowed for a conversation about research that you would be interested in doing.
