Return to Honors Pillars

Community

A community is special to each individual person. Growing up in a small county, most of everybody knew my family’s name. I didn’t know what would happen when I entered college. I was worried I wouldn’t fit in with anyone, worried I wouldn’t have my community at school. During the honors retreat, I started to feel more comfortable with the peers surrounding me. I felt like Longwood was starting to be home. I could feel why community is one of the pillars of honors.

The Cormier Honors College is very welcoming to everyone during honors preview and during the honors retreat. They do everything they are able to to make sure they answer any questions that pop up during the preview day, and they help transition new freshmen into their new home at Longwood. It was very helpful for me because I thought I would get very homesick, but honors made sure that there wasn’t any time for homesickness.
