Welcome!

My name is Amber Gordon and I am a junior at Longwood University majoring in communication sciences and disorders. I aspire to attend graduate school next year in order to achieve my dream of becoming a speech-language pathologist. I strive to take what I have learned from my undergraduate studies and apply them to life and my future occupation. My biggest goal is to help people in life, and as a speech-language pathologist, I can help people find their voice as I have found mine.

I currently work at the writing center at Longwood as a writing consultant and I love to work with people one-on-one. I am definitely a people-person and enjoy helping others with their writing. I have also been working at Chick-fil-A as a team member for three years, which has taught me that I love to be a team player and I love connecting with others as I work.

This particular e-portfolio will display the writing assignments that I have completed in my Professional Writing Course (ENGL 470) at Longwood. The work that will be displayed ranges from letters of correspondence to a comprehensive formal report. This content has given me a significant amount of knowledge about writing in a professional setting and has influenced the way I compose writing in professional contexts. This class has taught me what to be mindful of when writing, how to format documents, and how to work as a team when collaborating on projects. I have been able to accomplish all of the following course learning outcomes:

  1. Analyze and produce writing genres commonly found in the professional world (e.g. business, gov., media)
  2. Create professional documents that use plain English (clear, concise, and grammatically correct)
  3. Conduct research to create content for a variety of professional documents (memos, letters, reports, etc.)
  4. Create professional documents that use design – standard formats, layout, use of graphics, etc.
  5. Practice oral communication skills to present content effectively (enhanced with multimedia tools);
  6. Participate productively in collaborative projects
