ART 349 – Social Justice in Print Media

I took this class in the spring semester of 2020. This was my second art class taken at Longwood and I really liked it. I knew that there were so many different issues happening in the world today but this class showed me issues that were so small that not a lot of people knew about. I found it interesting because there are artists out in the world using their art just to raise awareness of something that they believe in and I really liked the aspect of being able to research about all the different types of print media being used to do this.

For the class, we had to choose one topic to research for the whole semester and I chose mental health because I feel that even though a lot of people know about it, there’s not a lot being done to raise awareness for it. I made a poster where I made a mask out of newspaper and put newspapers behind me as my background. I took in the problem of people not being able to see what people go through by covering my eyes and the mask is a way of showing what we’re going through with the pandemic happening around the world.
