In my English 400 class this semester I learned how to write professional texts such as a course journal, rhetorical analysis, common good project, resume, and cover letter. On this site I have posted each respectfully with a reflection.
Professional Profile:
My name is Sandra Gillum and I attend Longwood University. When I graduate in the Spring of 2020, I hope to be a teacher at an elementary school. I wanted to become a classroom teacher after co-teaching a youth group at my church. I desire to enter this profession because I want to be an advocate for children. I want to be someone who can provide stability and teach them how to read and other topics.
When I was little reading did not come naturally for me as I had a learning disability. I had dyslexia and thanks to some teachers who never gave up on me I now enjoy reading and read for entertainment. I want my students to know that it is okay to struggle as not everyone learns the same way or on the same day and that you can overcome your weaknesses.
Portfolio Purpose and Content
The purpose of this portfolio is to showcase my work throughout this semester. Each assignment used a variety of learning outcomes. I feel I have grown in my professional writing skills however; my grammar and public speaking skills need some work.
Course Learning Outcomes:
1.) Engage in the process of citizen leadership by investigating multiple perspectives on important public issues;
2.) Understand the nature of public discourse/debate as determined by purpose, audience, and context;
3.) Choose appropriate formats in writing for a variety of purposes;
4.) Analyze the effectiveness of their own texts and processes for specific rhetorical situation;
5.) Understand how the knowledge, skills, and values learned in general education are interwoven and interrelated, and how they can contribute to the process of citizen leadership
