I am senior at Longwood University who is currently studying Computer Science. I have been involved in this field for the past four years both in and outside of the classroom. I am actively involved in the computer science club as well as programming in my free time. I am currently working on an open source project named Piwik which is similar to Google analytics. I am also making a web application that analyses an excel file for accuracy using python, ruby and PHP for a potential client. I work well both on my own as well as with a team, and consider myself a team player. I have worked on multiple team projects both academically and in my spare time. For example, I worked with a team at the popular programming competition called Hack NC.

The purpose of this website is to show all the various assignments that were worked on throughout the semester in my technical writing class. For each of the main assignments, they have all been uploaded and posted on their own page. Then, on each page, a summary and reflective paragraph are posted for that assignment.

Throughout the semester I was able to accomplish all the learning outcomes for the course. The formal assignments as well as the informal ones done in class both combined to give me a better understanding of what technical writing is. By actually creating these technical documents I was able to apply what I had learned both in the book and in class and then turn them into a completed document. This help in many ways make me fully understand the current subject by not just reading about a concept or principle, but instead actually applying it to my sample papers. Throughout the semester, in addition to writing the documents, we had to analyse the effectiveness of not only our own papers but others as well. This included other classmates, in addition to works that were publicly available. By the end of the semester we were able to effectively critic these works in a meaningful way. In terms of the course learning objectives, there were five major projects that I had to complete. In both the manual and the proposal, it was very apparent  I was able to demonstrate my ability to cater towards my target audience. In the manual it was apparent that I was able to effectively use both verbal and visual elements combined together to convey my information. For the white paper, I demonstrated my ability to orally present my topic information to the class along side an effective and informatively written paper. This project is also where I developed strategies for how to collaborate within my group as well as with others. Between all of these major projects, as well as the in class activities that helped prepare me for those larger products, I can definitely say I have learned many valuable writing skills that will help me when I enter the business world.
