In this course, I learned about the fundamentals of audiology and hearing sciences as they relate to my future career as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Because hearing is fundamental to language development and my area of interest in pediatric speech therapy, I chose to take a split section of this course. My peers and I were required to create a literature review PowerPoint of “a topic related to hearing loss in a designated population that would be treated by a speech-language pathologist or audiologist,” and I chose to research Auditory-Verbal therapy, an intervention strategy for individuals with Cochlear Implants. Overall, this project helped me strengthen the skills necessary to identify and evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic practices to ensure that they are evidence-based.
The artifact included here is a copy of the PowerPoint and abstract presented in this course.
