Service to me means doing something to make a difference and to help others. Being a part of the honors college has taught me the importance of service. During the honors retreat, my group helped pick up hundreds of cigarette butts and other pieces of trash from the Macado’s parking lot. I’ve also volunteered at FACES, which is the local food bank in Farmville. We helped pack the food into shopping carts, and then loaded the food from the carts into people’s cars. Even though it started pouring rain, we did not stop and continued working to make sure that everyone was taken care of. These experiences have helped me appreciate giving back to the community and understand why it is so important.
