Biography

I grew up in Nanjemoy, Maryland until I reached the third grade and that is when my family and I moved to Appomattox, Virginia. I have three sisters, one older and one younger, and a chihuahua named Rex. I have always held my family close to my heart and making the move to college was a bit rough since I did not know anyone going to Longwood from my hometown, but I wanted to pursue my passion for education.
When I was a child there was not a single profession I did not want to join as I wanted to be everything from a famous popstar to a police officer. Once I reached high school is when I discovered what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I began to notice towards the end of my high school years how much teachers are involved in the lives of students and I realized that I wanted to help students like myself and be there for them in their times of need just like my teachers were for me. I always loved history, especially world history, so I decided that because high school was such a transitional time for students I wanted to be a high school history teacher, which may not sound like the most thrilling job, but it is something I am very passionate about.
During my last year of high school, I participated in competition called SLIC, which stands for Student-Led Ideation Challenge, that was hosted for the first time in order to see what ideas students had to improve curriculum and prepare students for life outside of the classroom. My team actually made it to the final round of the competition and won, which was an amazing experience, not only because we won, but we met so many amazing people, like various NASA employees and people who comprise Virginia’s Education Board.
