Scholarship

The Honors College has allowed me to explore various academic opportunities that not every Longwood student can. As I am a part of the Cormier Honors College I have the unique opportunity to take honors courses which are a bit different from regular courses. Honors courses do not mean they are more work than regular courses, but simply that the work is a bit different, like more project-based learning or delving further into certain topics. Some examples of the different type of work I have done in the honors courses I have currently taken would be writing a time travel story in my Founding Western Civilizations class, and interviewing children of three different age groups with the same questions and comparing their answers to see child development in the different development areas in my Human Growth and Development class. Another intriguing project I did in my Honors Human Growth and Development class was an inquiry based project where we got to explore any topic pertaining to education, so I chose bilingual education and I learned a lot about how America’s diversifying culture is affecting education.
