Rhetorical Analysis

In completing my rhetorical analysis paper, I learned how to analyze a medium and recognize the rhetorical tools and devices that were used in order to present an effective argument. In doing so, I was required to format my paper in a way that an individual without prior knowledge of the subject matter could understand the content (course learning outcome #3). This was important in conveying the message that Aly Raisman’s argument was effective. I was able to provide the audience of my paper with knowledge of the rhetorical tools that Raisman used. In order to do so, I provided the definition of the rhetorical device and then supported it with examples of how Raisman used it in her victim impact statement. Raisman is viewed very highly in her profession which allowed her to be an active leader. Using this victim impact statement allowed me to understand how the rhetorical tools presented in class give me an advantage that I will have in being a leader because I have the knowledge to present an effective and persuasive argument (course learning outcome #5). When writing our rhetorical analysis papers, our class had a peer review session in order to improve our papers. After doing so, I was able to determine if my argument presented in my analysis was effective (course learning outcome #4). My peers that had critiqued my paper provided feedback that assisted me in making a stronger argument that Aly Rasiman effectively used multiple rhetorical tools and devices to present a persuasive argument.
