Math Paper #1, 4/2/2020
The artifact above was a major assignment that connected topics from the first half of the course. I assumed the role of a friend helping another friend decide how to save for retirement by writing them a letter that outlines different scenarios. To complete this, I had to do all of the math necessary and then summarize it in a way that could be understood by someone with no knowledge of the subject. This was a challenge for me because if I were to mess up the math on one portion of a particular scenario, it could throw off the outcome of the whole assignment. Because of this, I had to double-check all of my work, something I am not accustomed to. I really enjoyed going through a real-world scenario and applying the concepts we learned in class, because it gave me the confidence to be able to handle something like this myself when the time comes. It was also a great way to practice the different concepts in preparation for the final exam.
In the future, I hope to make more of an effort in retaining the information learned instead of learning it enough to pass the test, especially in a course like this. Not to mention it makes preparing for the final exam easier. Learning how to properly navigate the world of finance is extremely important, so I hope I will be able to apply this knowledge in the future. The biggest takeaway from this class is to save as early as you can, so I intend to follow through with that.
