Cryopreservation

Here, you can see me thawing sperm from cryopreservation: The Thawing Process

Cryopreservation is the process of cooling and storing cells, tissues, or organs at very low temperatures to maintain their viability (Jr., W. C. S., 2018). This allows researchers to aid endangered species to recovery through storing sperm samples for ART use at later dates (Hezavehei, M., et. al., 2018). Unfortunately, cryopreservation has large negative impacts on sperm survival rates. These negative impacts are due to the extremely low holding temperatures, the sperms inability to protect itself from the other chemicals introduced throughout the process, and interference with egg-yolk extenders added for protection (Berghe, F. V. D., et. al., 2018). Due to this knowledge, it would be very beneficial to look into potential proteins that boost sperm cryo-tolerance, which could then lead to high success rates post-fertilization. At the top of this post, I have attached a picture of myself thawing sperm after being cryopreserved for many months!
