Community
As my time at Longwood grew, so did the community around me. The friends, mentors, and teammates I became so close with over the year were a result of Longwood having such an amazing and welcoming community. Without the support systems I had around me during my first year I don’t believe I would have excelled as well as I did. Outside of community of people that I know at Longwood, I know that there are so many other communities throughout Longwood which make it diverse and truly special.
My first year at Longwood I became part of several communities including Men’s Soccer, Cormier Honors College, Invitation to Freedom, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and most recently Alpha Lambda Delta. The first group I came to know was the Men’s soccer team. Due to men’s soccer playing in the fall semester, we had to report early for preseason and experience life at Longwood before classes even started. I would consider everyone on the team my closest friends and I hope to continue that friendship for the rest of my life. They continually push me to be my best both on and off the field and I am extremely grateful for that community in my life.
An academic community which I grew to love more and more as the year went on was the Cormier Honors College. The entire staff for the Honors College constantly gave support and help when needed and provided the best possible education I could receive. It is always nice to work with peers who have the same motivation and drive to push themselves mentally and academically. When I was around other students like this it made me a better student and person and hopefully I made other students better people.
I had always grown up going to church and practicing Christianity, but when I got to Longwood and joined Invitation To Freedom it elevated me and drew me closer to God. The amount of love and passion in ITF is absolutely incredible and no matter what people are going through in their lives, we had an amazing prayer network and leaders who would love on us and guide us onto the right path when we were straying away. I can’t wait to attend more meetings with this group and watch the community grow and God’s love spread throughout Longwood.
