CTZN 110-56: Spaces for Seeing (Fall 2019)
CTZN 110 was the first course I have taken that I felt completely comfortable sharing my thoughts in. In a class of only twelve students specifically designed for discussing prevalent topics surrounding citizenship. Listening my honors peers in other citizenship classes constantly complaining about how boring and tedious their own classes were, I felt fortunate to be in a class that was interesting and prevalent, and that my classmates valued as much as I did. This course opened my eyes to the issues surrounding representation in various settings and the precision with which it is carried out. The image-based and slow-paced nature of the course aided in my understanding of the ways in which an object or idea can be manipulated by its framing. Through writing-based assignments, photography, and museum visits, this course helped me to see things in a different light.
