Community

To me, community means finding a group of like-minded people and investing yourself in their beliefs and values. With that, I feel that just being a member of a society or group is not enough, I feel that a member of a group should do everything in their power to live by the values and beliefs of the group and work tirelessly to improve said group. At Longwood, there are countless opportunities to find a group and to really grow the group and yourself as a person. I think that the importance of community is to find a place where you belong and use it to grow yourself as a person as well as everybody around you. During my first year at Longwood, I have had the amazing opportunity to find my way with a variety of different organizations. Over the past year, I have become a member of the Cormier Honors College, Alpha Lambda Delta, and the Longwood University Club Wrestling Team. With all of these organizations, I have found countless new friends and these groups have helped me to grow as a person. The Cormier Honors College and Alpha Lamda Delta have helped me find a resource in which academics are a priority. Every member of both of these organizations are heavily focused on their academics and are always willing to help where needed. Through the club wrestling team, I have found students on campus that all share the same love of wrestling that I have, which has lead to a great relationship with all of my teammates. In all, community is an important aspect of personal development as well as improving the society for future members so they have a solid foundation.
