Reflection:
The formal report assignment required teams of three to act as a consulting firm and write work logs, minutes, and a formal report critiquing three websites for the company that commissioned our firm. We were also required to present our report to the class and answer any questions that the class had.
We were placed in the same teams as the brochure and press release assignments which gave us the opportunity to get to know each other better and collaborate as an even better team. Our writing styles came together and our schedules allowed us to meet productively two to three times a week for an hour or two at a time. We opened a Google document and worked outside of class at the library together as well as separately to complete the assignment.
Our team chose the name ‘Lancer Consulting’ and chose to critique the websites of Subway, Macado’s, and Charley’s Waterfront Cafe. Our team conducted research on the three websites and, after analyzing each, wrote our report using concise language and graphics, such as graphs, charts, photos, and logos.
Our presentation gave us a chance to practice our oral communication skills. We split the presentation up, making sure that each team member had the same amount of PowerPoint slides to go over for the class. When making the PowerPoint presentation, we met two hours before our presentation to ensure that it was ready to go. We collaborated on the minutes as well as making sure that the work logs were correct. Our team put a lot of effort into the report and was proud of the outcome.
