Professional Profile:

My name is Savannah Dyer and I am currently a junior History major with a minor in Rhetoric and Professional Writing. I plan to graduate in May of 2019. My after-college goal is to attend law school, either at William and Mary or at the University of Maryland. Because professional writing is such an important skill in the legal field, it was vital that I take this class and perfect my skills as a writer. Currently, I am in six classes and work two jobs: one on-campus and one in my hometown on the weekends that I have been working at for three years. The heavy work-load has challenged me to prioritize my work and set up a weekly schedule for each week’s assignments. I am a creative thinker – I love putting my ow personal spin on an assignment or project. Although working in teams is always a plus, I find that I do best when given complete freedom with a project to meet the requirements and go beyond.

e-Portfolio Purpose and Content:

The purpose of this e-Portfolio is to display my projects throughout the Spring semester of 2018. The first project we were assigned was the Correspondence letters. The Correspondence letters consisted of one ‘Bad News’ letter and one ‘Persuasive’ letter. The letters were followed by the Brochure assignment. The brochure was to introduce a product never seen before that was hitting the market for the first time. My team chose the Carpuccino, a device that would allow a driver to brew coffee in their car, as our product. The Press Release assignment followed up the Brochure as we set a release date and took on the role of a marketing manager. Lastly, we were assigned the Formal Report. The formal report required us to create a scenario in which our consulting company, Lancer Consulting, was offered a job comparing three websites to find the best qualities of each and provide a formal report of the three websites. We also were required to take minutes and complete work logs as well as present our reports to the class.

Throughout the semester, I have seen my writing skills improve as well as completing the course outcomes. With the correspondence letters, brochure, press release, and formal report assignments, I have been able to produce writing genres found in the professional word. They have also allowed me to create and design professional documents as well as participate in collaborative projects. We were able to practice oral communication skills first with a Ted Talk and then with the formal report. We completed several in-class labs that stressed the importance of the 8 C’s. As the course comes to an end, I believe that I have met the course outcomes and have given my best effort in the class.
