United States History 1877 to Modern Times
This was one of the best history classes that I have ever had. There was no pressure of tests or fact memorization. It was all ideas based. Furthermore, we focused more on the lives of an average american during each time frame over looking at the main facts at that time. I have never learned so much about history in such a sort amount of time. I would absolutely love to take another class with Dr. Dudley-Shotwell if I could.
As for the assignments done in the class, we often annotated sources, watched videos and movies, and listened to podcasts in preparation for the lectures happening the next day. With the information that we gathered, the students were in charge of connecting the sources to the lecture when possible. This system worked especially well as it kept the class engaged and actively learning through a dense lecture. At the end of the course we had a final project that combined many of the ideas from the lectures over the semester and allowed us to truly demonstrate the knowledge we had gained due to the class. Below you can see the final project. Each numbered section holds information from at least one lecture, using three sources from the class that back up our claims.
