About Mrs. Dean

Dear Families,

Welcome to preschool! I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with you and your child this year! I am looking forward to getting to know you, so here is a little about me.

I was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Northern Virginia in western Fairfax county. I moved here to the Southside area in 2012. I am married to my wonderful husband, Buck, who is an electrical contractor. We live in Charlotte County.

Prior to coming to the Andy Taylor Center, I taught early childhood special education for five years for Pittsylvania County Schools in Danville, VA. I have also taught in both general education preschool and special education preschool in Fairfax County, VA and Montgomery County, VA. In addition, I also worked with Chesapeake Children’s Therapy Services, a Part C/Early Intervention provider in Springfield, VA providing developmental services and parent education to infants and toddlers with disabilities. Early childhood education is an absolute passion of mine!

I received my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) I received my master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education from George Mason University. I also have a postbaccalaureate certificate in Early Childhood Education from George Mason. My professional and research interests focus on inclusive practices for young children with disabilities as well as development & management of paraprofessionals in special education settings. I have also done field work on interventions for preschoolers with autism, specifically in the areas of language and social emotional development.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me! I am available in the afternoons for phone calls and conferences every day between 1:00-3:00, and at other times by appointment. Teamwork and collaboration between school and home are what leads to the most successful outcomes for children. I look forward to developing a strong partnership with you!
