My Citizen 110 course, Social Entrepreneurship and the Global Citizen, is the first honors course that I have taken at Longwood. I didn’t know what to expect from this course but it was certainly different from any class that I took in high school. In Citizen 11o, as we learned how to come up with solutions to complex issues in society, I was able to take a more interactive and hands-on approach to learning. This course has helped me develop many fundamental skills such as my interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. I especially enjoyed the Reading Responses that we had to write because it allowed me to dive deeper into my thoughts and provided an opportunity for exploration and reflection. I think that the final project of the class was certainly the highlight of the course for me. For our final project, a group of classmates and I set up a trash art project in Upchurch in order to raise awareness about trash and plastic that pollutes the Chesapeake Bay. I have included a photo of our group during our trash event in Upchurch. Our project was very successful and I hope that I can continue to be a part of events and activities that raise awareness about environmental issues.
