Geography 201 was an important course for me because it taught me many important lessons about being a successful student. First, it helped me develop my method of learning and studying. I realized that I learned and retained knowledge best when I actively engage with the lectures and explain the lecture to myself in my own words in order to better understand the content. I also found that I study best when I actively review the course material and go over practice problems until I understand and know the facts and concepts. Second, I learned that it is important to meet with your professor in order to receive any help or support that you may need in the course. I found that talking with my professor about any questions or concerns that I had helped me manage my stress and workload for the course. Third, I made some mistakes that I now know not to make. My biggest mistake was procrastinating on my work and waiting until the last minute to complete work. This really gave me a lot of unnecessary stress and did not help me at all.
What made Geography 201 was a interesting course because I learned about globalization and how everything in the world is spatially connected. I never realized just how connected people are to everyone else on Earth. This course really helped bring the world into perspective for me. An assignment that really highlighted this was the Globalization Exercise that showed me how I was globally connected to the rest of the world. I have attached the Globalization Exercise to this reflection. I definitely enjoyed taking Geography 201 and I am grateful for all the lessons that I learned in this class.
