EDUC 245: Human Growth-Soc, Pol, Econ Ins

This class was weird, fun, interesting, and right in the middle of the day. I loved it because of my professor’s energy and stories, not to mention we got to talk to little kids for homework sometimes, which is always an upside to me. It was weird because we talked about what a baby would look like when its first born, and the different theories behind human growth and development (this is weird because scientists were basically aloud to do whatever they wanted to kids way back when in the name of science). It’s crazy because I thought I knew everything I needed to know about pregnancy, but the world continues to prove me wrong. I got to apply these theories and ideas to kids, not by putting them through experiments (because this is illegal now), but through observation and interviews. I started to see patterns in the kids a babysat at home, and I would be like “ah yes, that is an example of trust behavior”, which I have never done before. None of this would have been as fun to learn, if not for the professor. I truly believe that the professor makes the class, otherwise it feels like I am just reading a textbook, which is no fun. Our professor actually wanted to know all of us, as peers and friends, which was comforting to know when having a fear of being wrong. I would not have been able to retain all the information without all her interesting stories to go along with it.

One way she did this was by asking us to write reflections about ourselves and the class, while discussing certain ideas and theorists and apply those in the reflection. The worked very well for me. Education reflection #1
