MUSC 225: Introduction to World Music

The Introduction to World Music class was extremely informative. As a music student, I came into the course with a good understanding of music and the various terms. I was given very in depth looks into the music of  many cultures all across the globe, from the indigenous peoples of Australia, to the natives of Hawaii. I had the opportunity to learn the didgeridoo, which is a common wind instrument in Australian cultures. This opportunity helped me develop my circular breathing, which is a technique that greatly enhanced my musicianship. This course was taught at a high level, and each assignment allowed us to learn something new. I enjoyed this class a lot, and I am grateful for the knowledge I gained through it.

The artifact I have attached is an assignment we had to complete to fulfill our requirements to attend and review a concert at Longwood. The concert I reviewed was actually a faculty recital by the professor of this course, so it was a very cool experience for me. I was able to witness a concert for an instrument I had never heard of, the Basset Horn, which enhanced my musical awareness.
