Hello, my name is Jacob Compton and I welcome you to my professional writing portfolio. Currently, I am finishing a Bachelor’s of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Longwood University, but I plan on attending Old Dominion University’s nursing program in the fall. I am very excited for this new opportunity, and I feel that my college experiences have prepared me to excel in the professional world.
During my time here at Longwood, I have been a part of many different organizations that have given me many moments to evolve into a citizen leader. Of these opportunities, I credit my time in the Honor’s College and in the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association as being the two that have affected me the most. I have spent much time dedicated to bettering our community and providing help to those in need.
This portfolio acts as a culmination of lessons that I have learned throughout my time in ENGL 470: Professional Writing Skills. Through clicking on their respective tabs, you will see the assignments that I have created over the past semester and some of the professional techniques that I have developed over this time. The following were the course outcomes:
1) analyze and produce writing genres according to the rhetorical situation of workplace contexts
2) create professional documents that use plain English principles(to targeted audience)
3) conduct research to create content for avariety of professional documents (memos, letters, reports, etc.)
4) create professional documents that use designprinciples
5) practice oral communication skills to present content effectively (enhanced with multimedia tools)
6) participate productively in collaborative projects.
