Honors Citizen 410: Symposium for the Common Good
Instructor: Dr. Blincoe
This is the final presentation slideshow that was used to present during the Fall 2020 research day. My class focused on benefiting the Farmville community by promoting contemplative practices that would help people flourish in their lives. The purpose of this project was to engage the community in activities that would make people think about their lives and how they can better them.
The final project allowed me to collaborate with my peers and bring together small pieces of a big project. When we first came up with our project idea, we split off into small groups to focus on different parts of the project. My main task was to find research that showed the benefits of mindfulness and contemplative practices on mental health. Using my resources such as the university’s online library, I was able to find reputable sources for the project. This allowed me to further develop my abilities for looking for the proper and necessary research. The project also helped teach me how to work in a larger group of students rather than a smaller group or by myself. Overall, this project helped develop my research skills and teamwork skills, as well as helping the local community.
