Music 325: Music as an Agent of Change

This was my second writing exercise for Dr. Kinzer’s Music 325 course during the spring 2020 semester. The writing exercise was supposed to act as practice for our final paper. We were to choose a song that was popular during the Vietnam war and I chose Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walking”.

For this writing exercise, I had to analyze the song and its lyrics. I also had to explain the sound of the song, such as specific instruments, rhythm and the song’s structure. This exercise helped me learn how to analyze a song and learn the meaning behind the lyrics. By completing this exercise, I was able to write my final paper easily because I had practiced how to analyze a song. In the future, I will know how to analyze other pieces of work because of this writing exercise.
