By the time I started scheduling for my second semester classes, I knew I wanted to take a class that would teach me something new. I’ve always been a big fan of working out and doing outdoor activities, so when I learned of a class where I could learn how to rock-climb and canoe, I decided to sign up. The class was challenging in many ways, I had to learn how to belay, which meant that I literally held their lives in my hands! I also worked really hard on knots, and even tied knots in my dorm room.
The highlight of this class was when I realize how much I had improved in rock climbing. One day I tried a route for the first time, and made it up on my first try! It was amazing to see what I had learned mentally and physically over such a short time. We also studied maps and learned skills that are helpful for survival in the outdoors, which I believe will be very helpful in my future.
