Blog #8: Global Perspectives

Global perspectives is defined when someone can think about a situation as it relates to the rest of the world. Global perspectives have many theories, concepts, and identities.

Symbolic Interactionism is a theoretical paradigm that examines the way meaning shapes the behavior of individuals towards the objects and world around them. Act is the most basic unit of human behavior. When act is involving two or more people they make gestures. The person who makes the gesture and the person who receive the gesture both understand the meaning behind the gesture is significant symbols.

McDonaldization is a way of thinking about contemporary forms of capitalist production. This concept has four main characteristics: efficiency, calculabilty, predictability, and control through nonhuman technology and deskilling of the labor force. Efficiency is the products are being produced and available to customers in the easiest way possible. Calculability are the results from methods that predict future success, track products, and assess the market for products. Predictability is the ability for a customer to predict the quality or content of a certain product. Control through nonhuman technology and deskilling of the labor force is the decline of the labor force due to the use of nonhuman technology such as machines to work at a rapid rate. Popular culture has been Mcdonaldized.

Global Identities are forces like immigration, religion, politics, and economies that make it important to understand popular culture at a global level. Popular culture is a important piece in the meaning of identity and everyday life. That means we should understand identity at least through popular culture.

Are global perspectives a big deal?
