Below are some college courses that I feel I got the most out of to assist me in my public relations career:

  1. Public Relations Campaigns: Here I learned everything about how to plan a PR campaign. In this class, we created a fundraising campaign for the non-profit organization C.O.P.E.S. We interviewed different “campaign managers” and were then selected into groups by them. Once selected, my group and I spent the entire semester creating a fundraising campaign from the ground up.
  2. Digital & Social Media: In this course, I learned how to create a maintain a successful blog. We started by selecting a topic, and created content/up kept the blog for the entire semester. We also learned about different social media marketing techniques as well as how to successfully use them in our own work.
  3. Communication Research: In this class, I became an I.R.B certified researcher and created an original communication studies research study. In this class, we created our topic, learned about past research studies, and used this information to create and present our own research on a topic of our choosing.
  4. Contemporary Practices in Communications: In this class, we learned the foundations for helping ourselves stand out when applying for future careers. It’s here that we learned how to create a targeted cover letter & resume. We also learned different successful techniques to practice during interviews.
  5. Advanced Media Writing: In this class, I learned the “in’s and out’s” of writing techniques in the media. I learned how to stay clear and concise when writing, as well as how to write in such a way to keep audiences interested in what I’m saying.
