Goal 7 – Modern Western Civilization
Below, you’ll find my narration submission for one of the assignments we did for this class. I really enjoyed this project in particular, since we could choose either to write an essay or deliver a presentation on a topic of our choosing, provided it was related to the course’s objectives. Since it was so fresh in my mind after my study abroad experience and it’s a subject that’s usually glazed over in United States curricula, I chose to present a more in-depth overview of the Great Irish Famine. After completing this course, I feel much more aware of modern western history. Specifically, I feel much more aware of the historical events that occurred outside of the United States of America. I think I’ve gained a better understanding about history’s bigger picture and a more unbiased eye for viewing the past and present. To be honest, I wish they taught more world history in grade school. I would have liked to grow up learning more sides of history than just our nation’s perspective so that I could have learned earlier that there’s always more than one side to a story.
