Special Topics: City As Text: Atlanta
I’m much less connected to my mobile devices than most of my peers, especially while out and about, but wandering a city without using such devices was more fun than I imagined. I enjoy getting lost in order to learn where I am and how to get around, but by taking this course, I learned how to wander more efficiently. In fact, to prepare for our trip to Atlanta, GA, one of our assignments was to wander our good, old town of Farmville for an hour and document our travels and discoveries in a short paper. Not only did I learn more about my environment, such as the fact that there’s a guitar store a ways off of main street, but I felt more encouraged to be physically active. Attached below is the last essay I wrote for this course, after our visit to Atlanta and before the semester’s honors poster presentation event (where we presented our observations and findings from our field trip).
