Dear Senior Self,
Freshman year is over! I did it!! And managed to get President’s List first semester and Dean’s List second semester, which is pretty awesome for my first year at college.
Adjusting to college life had it’s ups and downs, but overall was not as scary and difficult as I thought it was going to be. It was hard leaving behind my family and friends, but they aren’t that far and I got to see them a lot more than I thought! Plus, I made so many new friends at Longwood that it never felt like I was alone at college. I always had someone to talk to or go get Greens2Go with! I am hopeful that the craziness that is going on in the world right now does not affect my sophomore year like it did the latter half of freshman year, but if it does, I know that I can handle it.
Some of the best advice I got from any upperclassmen was to get involved around campus, so here is what I got involved with freshman year! I was invited to join the Special Education Ambassadors, which I was crazy excited about, and in March, I was elected part of the Special Projects Committee! I have so many great ideas for advocacy events for the club, and hopefully next year, I’ll be on campus to be able to put those ideas into reality. I also got the opportunity to be a Peer Mentor for the incoming freshman in the fall! I hope I can impact their transition to Longwood in a positive way like my peer mentor did for me (shoutout Ashley!!) I also really want to be a part of sorority life at Longwood, and although I wasn’t able to do the recruitment process last semester, I am hopeful soon that I will be able to be a part of that as well!
There is so much to look forward to in the coming years at Longwood. Getting to start teaching and impacting lives of the generations to come, having the opportunity to study abroad and explore the world outside my backyard, and really become the person I have always wanted to be. I hope that by my senior year, I am able to confidently say that I love the person I am and where I am in my journey of life at Longwood.
Hopefully it doesn’t fly by too fast! And hopefully there is no more online school!!
With love,
Freshman Self
