Service

Service has always been a major part of my life. Since the time I was a little girl, my mother would make me go out and work to serve food to homeless or people in need on holidays. My mother herself works for a non-profit organization that provides services to the eldely who might not be able to afford it otherwise. I worked with her in many programs and eve worked in the starting of a new program called Miles for Veterans, by fundraising to attain funds to provide veterans with free transport to doctors appointments.

So, as you can imagine, I was happy to hear that the Cormier Honors College was extremely focused on service, and doing more for our campus as well. Here at Longwood I have found many opportunities to continue my service, like volunteering for the ASPCA and painting a mural with honors, but also joining a co-ed Service Fraternity here on campus (Alpha Phi Omega). Many, many people who are in honors also participate in this fraternity which does service for the community pretty much every day.

I am thankful for all these opportunities or service and to help people but also extremely grateful for all the friends I made along the way who have the same passion to do service as I do.
